There has been media reporting suggesting councils will be forced to approve wind turbines, through changes to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). This inaccurate.
We have made clear renewable projects will still subject to strict planning controls to protect local communities and the environment. There are established routes in the planning system to consider the impacts of renewables projects and to enable communities to raise concerns about developments in their area.
An MHCLG spokesperson said:
“These claims are inaccurate. Under our plans communities will still have a say in what is built in their area, and we have been clear the rollout of renewables must not come at the expense of nature.”
